Napolcom cites Smart for community service
MANILA, Philippines — Smart Communications Inc. received the Community Service Award from the National Police Commission (Napolcom) for its contribution to nation-building through communications support during the pandemic.
The citation is part of Napolcom’s 55th anniversary activities. Anthony Fernandez, head of Smart’s regulatory and external management, accepted the award in a virtual ceremony held at the Napolcom Center and led by Interior Secretary Eduardo Año.
“Smart’s assistance in disseminating information is intended to help improve police services and strengthen community-police partnerships,” Fernandez said.
PLDT and Smart, in coordination with the Philippine National Police, recently installed network facilities at Camp Brig. Gen. Oscar M. Florendo in San Fernando, La Union, to ensure better connectivity in the province.
In 2014, Smart helped the PNP-Maritime Group and the US Agency for International Development Philippines in patrolling coastline communities in Tawi-Tawi.
