MANILA, Philippines — The country’s coronavirus death toll rose to 35,529 on Tuesday following the deaths of 222 more COVID-19 patients.
Deaths triggered by COVID-19 now account for 1.57 percent of the total 2.26 million cases of the disease in the country, according to data from the Department of Health (DOH).
The DOH has noted an increase in deaths in August as it also reported higher numbers of COVID-19 cases due to the highly transmissible Delta variant.
The agency said they reported 114 deaths per day in August, higher than the 97 average deaths in July and 106 in June.
By reporting date, the DOH has so far logged 2,080 deaths in September. These include the 168 deaths reported on September 10; 79 on September 11; 168 on September 12, and 163 fatalities on September 13.
The country now has 177,670 active cases, including the 18,056 additional infections reported on Tuesday.
Of the active cases, 85.8 percent are mild, 9.5 percent are asymptomatic, 2.66 percent are moderate, 1.4 percent are severe, and 0.6 percent are critical.
