MANILA, Philippines — An additional 163 patients died as a result of COVID-19 complications, according to the Department of Health (DOH) on Monday, bringing the total recorded deaths at 35,307.
This means the Philippines is averaging 142 deaths per day for the past 13 days, with a total of 1,858 deaths recorded since the start of September.
The country recorded an average of 114 deaths per day in August, 97 average deaths in July and 106 in June.
The total death toll, according to DOH, accounts for 1.57 percent of the total 2,248,071 confirmed COVID-19 cases since the virus hit the country’s shores in early 2020.
The local death toll also accounts for 0.76 percent of the total deaths worldwide, which according to Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 tracker, currently stands at 4,630,816.
The DOH also recorded 20,745 fresh cases of COVID-19 on Monday, which is the third consecutive day the country has recorded daily infections above 20,000.
Total current active infections sit at 180,293, while recoveries are at 2,032,471.
