More crop losses seen in Bicol
LEGAZPI CITY—The Department of Agriculture (DA) in Bicol projected more crop losses in the coming days as floods continued to wreak havoc on the region’s farms.
Floodwaters have started to flow from Albay to Camarines Sur, threatening to destroy more crops, according to Emily Bordado, DA regional communication head.
She said 4,122 hectares of farms had been flooded. At least 3,310 ha of the farms were in Baao and Bula towns. At least 812 ha of farms were under water in Albay, she said.
In Camarines Sur alone, Bordado said the damage could reach P19 million. In Albay, she said at least P2 million of crops were destroyed. In the entire region, at least 15,179 ha of farms have been planted with rice.
Bordado said the DA expected more reports of losses to come in from Milaor, Minalabac and San Fernando towns.—Juan Escandor Jr.
