MANILA, Philippines—A suspect in the Maguindanao Massacre was apprehended by the Philippine Army, a military official said Tuesday.
In a text message sent to members of media, Army Commanding General Lieutenant General Arturo Ortiz, quoting initial reports from ground commanders, identified the suspect as Nasser T. Talib who was arrested by members of the Army’s 104th Brigade at Barangay (village) Poblacion, Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao at 9:30 am Monday.
The suspect was initially taken to the 104th headquarters in Tacurong City.
The suspect has been turned over to representatives of the Department of Justice and was awaiting transfer to Manila, Ortiz said.
No other details were available as of posting.
The Ampatuan clan has been implicated in the massacre of 57 persons, mostly journalists, in Maguindanao in 2009.
