PH records 29.4% COVID positivity rate: 1 of 3 tested for virus turns out positive
MANILA, Philippines — The country has recorded a COVID-19 positivity rate of 29.4 percent, which means that almost one out of three people who were tested for coronavirus have yielded positive result.
Based on testing data from Tuesday released by the DOH in its Thursday case bulletin, 29.4 percent of 74,706 people who were tested were found positive for the SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
This is way higher than the five-percent threshold set by the World Health Organization to indicate controlled transmission of the virus.
The country’s COVID-19 positivity rate was 28.1 percent on Monday and Sunday, 28.8 percent on Saturday, and 27.5 percent on Friday.
The country has 166,672 active cases of COVID-19, including the 22,820 additional infections on Thursday—the highest single-day increase so far since the pandemic started.
