COVID-19 kills 61 more; PH toll now at 34,773

MANILA, Philippines — COVID-19 has claimed the lives of 61 more people in the country, bringing the death toll to 34,773 as of September 9, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

The latest count pushed the DOH’s COVID-19 fatality log to 1,280 since the start of September, which means there were 142 deaths on average in the past nine days due to the new coronavirus disease

This average of deaths was the highest so far within the past few months as August recorded 114 deaths per day; July, 97 deaths per day; and June, 106 deaths per day.

The DOH also said that the tally of deaths due to COVID-19 in the country takes 1.61 percent of the total 2,161,892 confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infections since last year.

Further, the DOH reported Thursday another 22,820 COVID-19 cases – the highest daily count in the Philipines so far. This number includes 166,672 active cases and 1,960,487 recovered patients.

Worldwide, COVID-19 has hit at least 223.5 million and killed over 4.5 million.
