PNP pressed to nab cops mulcting detainees

05:14 AM September 09, 2021

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police should arrest and heavily penalize police officers who allegedly extort money from detainees before complying with court orders to release them.

Rizal Rep. Fidel Nograles said on Wednesday that he would mobilize lawyers to help detainees who are forced to pay “board and lodging,” protection and visitation fees before they are released as ordered by the court.

PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar earlier announced that he already ordered the PNP’s Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group to investigate several complaints while Nograles urged victims or their families to coordinate with his group Lakbay Hustisya.
