Cops arrest suspects in killing of former tabloid editor

MANILA, Philippines — Police officers have arrested two men accused of being involved in the killing of former Remate tabloid editor Gwen Salamida in Quezon City.

La Loma Police Station 1 identified the suspects as Nilo Payag Anub and Richard Go Alaba, who were arrested in Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 3.

According to police, footage obtained from CCTV cameras in the area where the suspects fled showed one of them getting picked up by a silver Toyota Corolla with plate number TSG 684 after the shooting.

Through follow-up operations, authorities found that the car stopped on the Sto. Niño Street.

Shortly before their arrest, the suspects were in their car, which some police officers tried to flag down.

Instead of stopping, the car sped off. Some officers were able to block the car and arrest the suspects.

Confiscated from the suspects were the vehicle, a .38-caliber revolver, a hand grenade, and two rounds of ammunition for an M203 grenade launcher.

The suspects were detained at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit of the Quezon City Police District.

The National Press Club commended the police officers for capturing the suspects.

On Aug. 17, Salamida was in her own beauty salon on Kaiging Road in Barangay Apolonio Samson in Quezon Cit with her companion Oliver Perona when a gunman entered and opened fire, killing Salamida and wounding Perona.
