MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga––The municipal government of San Jose in Tarlac province has placed the town under a hard lockdown from Sept. 8 to Sept. 22 to control the surging COVID-19 cases.
San Jose Mayor Romeo Capitulo issued an executive order Tuesday, Sept. 7, prohibiting all forms of mass gatherings, including religious services.
The order also imposes curfew from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. and a ban on the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages.
Mountain bikers and ambulant vendors are not allowed to enter the town during the lockdown period.
San Jose, a highland agricultural town with a population of 41,182 based on the 2020 census, is popular among downhill mountain bikers and road cyclists.
Capitulo issued the executive order after receiving a resolution from the Liga ng mga Barangay recommending “mitigating measures” against COVID-19.
On Tuesday, San Jose registered 10 more COVID-19 cases.
The town has registered 115 cases since the pandemic began last year. Of these, 85 have recovered, and three have died.
As of Sept. 7, its active cases stood at 27.
