UV downs SHS-AdC in ThreeSixty Cup
THE UNIVERSITY of the Visayas gained the second seed in the 16-under division A class of the 2012 ThreeSixty Pharmacy Cup after they dumped the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, 61-29, yesterday at the SHS-AdC baskeball courts along Mango Avenue.
The match was nearly close in the early stages with UV leading by just eight, 23-15, at halftime. However, the offensive dam burst for UV in the third period led by the prolific Leonard Santillan, who scored 10 of his 14 points in that stretch to give his team a 48-21 lead. In one amazing play, the 6-foot-2 Santillan rose up on a fastbreak and threw down a one-handed slam that electrified the crowd.
UV now owns a 2-1 record, just behind the Cebu Eastern College Dragons’ immaculate 3-0 record over in group A.
In the 13-under division A, the SHS-AdC kept their winning run going as they got past the University of San Carlos-South, 28-25. The victory gave the winners the solo lead at 3-0 while USC South dropped to 2-1. In another encounter, the University of San Jose-Recoletos defeated the Don Bosco Greywolves, 37-29.
In the AB division, CEC routed Southwestern Universidty, 45-29 while UV B annihilated the MCEC, 44-29. UV also blasted the SHS-AdC B, 39-18, even as the Forum manhandled the USC-South, 38-12.
In the 10-under division, CEC edged SHS-AdC, 11-6. The championship of this division though, is set to be contested by sister squads, USC North and USC South, on March 4 at the City Sports Club Cebu. The two teams own similar 3-1 marks.
Article continues after this advertisementMeanwhile, the under-19 division is set to kick off next weekend, according to league commissioner Rico Navarro. Set to compete are the CVIRAA selection, CEC, UV, USJ-R, USC, Agers and the Forum.
