CEBU CITY—A fisherman was reported missing, and two others were rescued in separate incidents in the coastal town of Daanbantayan in Cebu province after strong waves spawned by Tropical Storm “Jolina.”
Victor D’osep Tancawan, Daanbantayan’s Disaster Risk Reduction, and Management Office chief, said a fisherman from Barangay Malbago failed to come home Monday after venturing out to the sea to fish.
He said his office was still gathering more information on the ongoing search-and-rescue operation.
Tancawan said two fishermen were rescued after they were found drifting with their fishing boats in the waters between Barangays Tapilon and Maya past 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7.
The province’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office also received reports of flooding in Bogo City, Borbon town, and parts of Camotes Island due to heavy rains on Monday night.
Floodwater rose to at least a meter in several barangays in Borbon town, said Rodrigo Tecson, the town’s disaster management chief.
In Bogo, six villages reported flooding – Bungtod, La Purisima, Concepcion, Polambato, Taytayan, and San Pedro.
The northern portion of Cebu has been placed under Storm Signal No. 1 due to Jolina.
Since cargo and passenger vessels were not allowed to sail due to the typhoon, at least 161 passengers were reported stranded in the different ports of Cebu.
