LAOAG CITY—Ilocos Norte remains under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) until Sept. 30, Malacañang said Tuesday, Sept. 7.

The quarantine classification is different from what Malacañang announced Monday that the province would revert to the less stringent general community quarantine with “heightened restrictions” beginning Wednesday, Sept. 8.

Ilocos Norte was first placed under MECQ on Aug. 16 by the national COVID-19 task force due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases fueled by the Delta variant. MECQ is the second most restrictive quarantine classification in the country.
