TACLOBAN CITY — Former Leyte Gov. Leopoldo Petilla passed away on Monday, September 6, due to COVID-19 complications.
The death of the 88-year-old former political leader of the province was formally announced by his family through the Facebook account of his daughter-in-law and Palo Mayor Frances Ann Petilla.
In compliance with the mandatory health protocols, the remains of the former governor were buried hours after his death.
The family did not disclose other details.
Among those present during the burial were his sons Gov. Leopoldo Dominico and wife, Sharon; and former energy secretary Carlos Jericho and his wife Frances Anne.
Petilla served as governor of Leyte from 1992 to 1995 and was replaced by his wife, Remedios, who served for nine years.
Their sons Carlos Jericho and Leopoldo Dominico also served as governors of the province.
Aside from Carlos Jericho and Leopoldo Dominico, Leopoldo has left four other children, all residing in the United States.
