Truck driver, helper killed in vehicle malfunction in Southern Leyte
ORMOC CITY––A truck driver and his assistant died past midnight Monday after the former lost control of their vehicle along the national highway of Barangay Katipunan, Silago town, Southern Leyte.
Lt. Joseph Tiauzon, chief of the Silago Police Station, identified the fatalities as Romualdo Nebria, the driver, and Junjun Casalan Berdida.
Shedrick Dave Arro, a truck helper, was injured and is recuperating at the hospital.
Tiauzon said the truck was carrying 120 live hogs from Zamboanga Del Sur and was on the way to Tacloban City when the incident happened.
Case investigator Patrolman John Rey Raquel said the pig truck collided with a big rock at the national highway when Nebria failed to maneuver a sharp curve in the area.
At least 91 hogs also died.
