Signal No. 1 raised over 3 more areas due to Tropical Depression Jolina

MANILA, Philippines —Three more areas were placed under Tropical cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 on Monday as Tropical Depression Jolina may likely intensify into a tropical storm on Wednesday prior to its landfall over Northern Luzon.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), in its  tropical cyclone bulletin issued at 11 a.m., said Signal No. 1 was also raised over Sorsogon, Northern Samar and Samar.

Pagasa earlier hoisted Signal 1 over Eastern Samar, Dinagat Islands, Siargao Island and Bucas Grande Islands.

Jolina is expected to trigger moderate to heavy rains over Eastern Samar, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte including Siargao and Bucas Grande Islands in the next 24 hours.

The northern part of Cebu, Bohol, Camiguin, and the rest of Eastern Visayas, meanwhile, may experience light to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Operators and crewmen of small vessels are advised to take precautionary measures due to possible  moderate to rough sea conditions.

As of 10 a.m., Jolina was spotted 205 kilometers east southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar or 230 kilometers east northeast of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte.

Moving west at 15 kilometers per hour (kph), Jolina packs a maximum sustained wind speed of 55 kph near the center and gusts of up to 70 kph.
