CITY OF CALAPAN – Police seized seven pieces of gmelina lumber just after midnight Monday, September 6, in Sablayan town in Occidental Mindoro province, said a report from the Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) police.
At 12:10 a.m. during an intelligence monitoring in Barangay (village) Batong-Buhay, the police spotted two men arranging the logs near the road.
When the still unidentified men saw the police approaching them, they ran to the mountainous area and evaded arrest.
Recovered from the area were logs with a total scale of 165.75 board feet and valued at P7,458.
These were inventoried by the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office and will be brought to Sablayan police station.
Meanwhile, police are looking for the suspects who, once caught, will face charges for violation of the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines.
