Magnitude 4.9 quake strikes off Negros Occidental
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck off Negros Occidental, above the Negros Trench on Sunday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
According to the earthquake bulletin released by Phivolcs, the epicenter of the quake was located 55 kilometers (km) northwest of Sipalay City, Negros Occidental at 5:00 p.m.
Phivolcs said Intensity II was felt in Bago City, Negros Occidental and Intensity I in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental.
State seismologists said the quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 18 kilometers.
Phivolcs said no aftershocks are expected following the quake.
