PH logs 20,019 new COVID-19 cases
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines recorded 20,019 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, the third consecutive day that cases have breached the 20,000-mark, the Department of Health (DOH) said.
Based on the DOH’s latest case bulletin, the new cases raised the overall case count to 2,080,984.
A total of 20,089 patients have recovered, raising the recovery total to 1,889,312.
The death toll, however, climbed to 34,234 with 173 additional fatalities.
With these figures, the country’s active COVID-19 cases stand at 157,438. Of this figure, 92 percent are mild, 3.4 percent are asymptomatic, 0.7 percent are critical, 1.4 percent are severe, and 2.51 percent are moderate.
Article continues after this advertisementA total of 119 duplicates were taken out of the total cases including 95 recoveries and one death.
Meanwhile, 58 cases that were initially tagged as recoveries, were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
The DOH likewise reported a 27.5 percent positivity rate among 73,472 tested individuals on September 3.
Last Friday, five laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.
Moreover, the number of utilized intensive care unit beds has increased to 75 percent while the use of ventilators remains at 57 percent across the country.
The DOH added that COVID-19 cases may continue to rise in the following days. It is urging the public to observe minimum public health standards and to get vaccinated.
