Manila fire kills baby

/ 10:36 PM February 18, 2012

An hour-long fire killed a 6-month-old baby boy and left 40 families homeless in a Manila slum area before noon yesterday.

The infant Samuel Llames was left behind in his cradle as the blaze spread across Granate, Zobel Roxas and Onyx Streets in San Andres Bukid.

FO2 Lords Hernandez said the baby and his two siblings, aged 10 and 11, apparently had no guardian at home with them when the fire started.

“The older siblings escaped unhurt. Nobody among the neighbors realized in their panic that the baby was still inside,” Hernandez said. Jeannette I. Andrade
