LAGUNA—Police have rescued at least 54 dogs believed being transported for slaughter.
The dogs, all native breeds or askals, were found separately jammed in cages in an L-300 van and a tricycle.
Supt. Kirby Kraft, police chief of San Pedro, Laguna, said two of the dogs were dead.
Kraft said the tricycle driver, Christian Medina, has been arrested. His tricycle first yielded seven dogs. The rest of the dogs were found in the van near where Medina’s tricycle was intercepted, said Kraft.
Police quoted Medina as saying the dogs were being transported to Nagcarlan, Laguna. The dogs have been turned over to an animal welfare center in Capas, Tarlac, according to Kraft. Maricar Cinco, Inquirer Southern Luzon
