148 more fatalities bring PH’s COVID-19 death toll to 33,680

MANILA, Philippines — The deaths of 148 more patients brought the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 33,680 on Thursday, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

The deaths still account for 1.67 percent of all the 2,020,484 confirmed coronavirus infections in the country.

The DOH logged 222 deaths on Monday, 118 on Tuesday, and 86 deaths on Wednesday based on the agency’s previous case bulletins.

Deaths due to COVID-19 complications have increased in August, the department earlier said, as the country also battles a renewed surge in coronavirus cases due to the highly transmissible Delta variant.

DOH said it recorded an average of 114 deaths per day in August, higher than the 97 average deaths in July and 106 in June.

The country currently has 146,510 active COVID-19 cases, including 1.1 percent severe and 0.6 percent critical cases that are at higher risk for death.
