QC completes giving first dose of COVID-19 vaccines to 100% of target residents

MANILA, Philippines — Quezon City has finished injecting the first dose of COVID-19 vaccines on 1.701,221 million individuals as of Tuesday, Aug. 31, exceeding its target of an even 1.7 million individuals, or 80 percent of the adult population, to achieve herd immunity, according to a statement issued by the city government on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, 750,419 individuals, or 46.72 percent, have already completed their second dose, which brings the total number of fully vaccinated individuals to 844,149.

In total, the city has administered 2,451,630 vaccine doses from March to August 2021.

Mayor Joy Belmonte thanked the active participation of city residents and workers in the inoculation program.

“I am proud that our QC residents and workers are one with us to achieve population protection. We thank them for their patience and cooperation throughout the entire vaccination process,” Belmonte said in a statement.

The city will continue vaccinating individuals despite going past its target, according to Joseph Juico, co-chair of the Quezon City Task Force Vax to Normal.

“Aside from ensuring the remaining second dose inoculations, our vaccination sites will remain operational to vaccinate all eligible residents as long as we receive vaccine supplies from our procurement and the national government,” Juico said.

As of Wednesday, Sept. 1, Quezon City has recorded a total of 131,681 COVID-19 cases, with 9,537 active cases, 120,809 recoveries, and 1,335 deaths.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health earlier recorded a total of 2,003,955 confirmed cases of COVID-19 nationwide, 140,949 active cases, 1,829,473 recoveries, and 33,533 deaths.
