MANILA, Philippines — A total of 2,009,171 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have already been administered in the city of Manila, its local government announced on Wednesday.
Of this number, 1,265,473 have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 792,505 completed the inoculation process with their second dose as of Wednesday, 6:00 p.m.
Meanwhile, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso in a statement assured that his administration will continue to address the situation “inclusively” — providing vaccines not only for citizens of Manila but also for the general public.
Domagoso also said that life-saving medication such as tocilizumab and remdesivir can be availed from the local government “for anyone who needs it.”
The Department of Health (DOH) earlier announced that the government is facing challenges in sourcing anti-inflammatory drug tocilizumab for COVID-19 patients, amid the surge of coronavirus infections in the country.
“Delikado po talaga ang sitwasyon natin kaya sa totoo lamang, ang pamahalaan, katulad ng pamahalaang lokal ng Maynila ay patuloy na dapat tumutugon sa pangangailangan ng tao sa loob ng pandemyang ito,” he said.
(Our situation is really dangerous so in fact, the government, like the local government of Manila must continue to respond to the needs of people during this pandemic.)
“Walang ibang aasahan ang tao kung hindi ang pamahalaan [only the government can provide these needs],” the Mayor added.
Manila City currently has 1,665 active infections, 73,346 recoveries and 1,432 deaths from a total of 76,443 confirmed COVID-19 cases.
Meanwhile the country has likewise breached the 2-million mark, this time, however, for total confirmed COVID-19 cases with a total of 2,003,955. This includes 140,949 active cases, 1,829,473 recoveries and 33,533 deaths as of Wednesday, according to DOH.
