MANILA, Philippines — Almost 46 percent of the eligible population in the National Capital Region (NCR) are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said Wednesday.
In an online briefing, MMDA chairman Benhur Abalos said that as of Tuesday, August 31, a total of 4,500,510 Metro Manila residents, or 45.92 of the eligible population have received two doses of the anti-COVID-19 vaccine.
There are some 9,800,000 people out of 14 million who are eligible for the vaccine, Abalos noted.
The MMDA chairman added NCR expects to cross the 50 percent mark in the coming days.
“Malapit na yung sinasabi naming 50 percent, of the eligible of 9.8 [million],” Abalos said.
“Just give us one or two or three days for that, mahi-hit ‘yung (we will hit the) 50 percent,” he added.
Meanwhile, there are now 8,009,042 NCR residents who have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, according to the MMDA chief.
According to government data over 13.7 million individuals in the country are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
