MANILA, Philippines — The country’s total confirmed COVID-19 cases reached over 2 million on Wednesday as 14,216 more individuals are infected.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), the number of total confirmed cases now stands at 2,003,955, while active COVID-19 cases are at 140,949 or 7 percent of the overall tally.

“The relatively low number of cases today is due to lower laboratory output last Monday,” the agency said.

Meanwhile, the DOH also logged 18,754 recoveries, raising the number of patients who have recovered from COVID-19 to 1,829,473, which is 91.3 percent of all infections. Another 86 patients, however, died, bringing the death toll to 33,533.

Some 26.4 percent of 51,473 people who were tested were found positive for coronavirus on Monday.

All testing laboratories were operational on Monday but five were not able to submit their data on time. Based on data in the last two weeks, the five labs contribute 0.8 percent of samples tested and 0.8 percent of positive individuals on average.

The DOH also removed 118 duplicates, including 91 recoveries and one death, from the total case count. Thirty-seven cases that were initially counted as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
