2 nabbed over illegal logs in Oriental Mindoro town

CITY OF CALAPAN – Two men were arrested by police early morning Wednesday over illegally cut logs in Mansalay town in Oriental Mindoro province, according to a report from the Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) Police Office.

Ben Jay Ligid, 22, and Omel Tugbok, 21, were arrested by police at 12:30 a.m. during an anti-illegal logging operation in Barangay (village) Teresita.

Their two companions, Yoyoy Talon and Bunog Oriendo, were able to escape.

Confiscated from the suspects are a tricycle and two motorcycles without plate numbers loaded with 26 pieces of illegally sawn lawaan species with a scale of 432 board feet and valued at P38,880.

Suspects are under police custody and facing charges for violation of Presidential Decree No. 705 or the Forestry Reform Code of the Philippines.
