LUCENA CITY – Another town mayor in Quezon province has tested positive for COVID-19.

General Luna Mayor Matt Erwin Florido, 41, said on his Facebook page Wednesday morning that he contracted the SARS-Cov2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

The mayor, who is  fully vaccinated, said he is in a stable condition except for the absence of his sense of smell and taste.

His office will be temporarily closed for disinfection and an aggressive contact tracing is ongoing.

Florido asked those who had been in contact with him to undergo 14-day quarantine if they do not have symptoms or report to authorities if they are experiencing symptoms so they could be referred to a hospital.

Florido urged the public to strictly observe all safety and health protocols to avoid getting infected by the dreaded virus.

As of Aug. 31, General Luna logged 90 COVID-19 cases, 84 recoveries and 3 fatalities since the pandemic broke out in March last year.

The town still has three active cases.

Last April, Mayor Alfredo Rigor Mitra of the island town of Panukulan and Candelaria Mayor Macario Boongaling both contracted COVID-19.
