MANILA, Philippines — The country’s COVID-19 cases are highest for people aged 20 to 39, data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed.
DOH data as of August 29 showed that among age groups, those that contributed the highest number of COVID-19 cases are individuals aged 20 to 24, 25 to 29, 30 to 34, and 35 to 39.
The data showed that among females, the highest cases came from those aged 25 to 29 at 134,148 total cases; followed by 114,009 cases from those aged 30 to 34; 102,615 cases from those aged 20 to 24, and; 86,221 cases from those aged 35 to 39.

Meanwhile, among males, the highest cases were also from those aged 25 to 29 at 141,632 cases; followed by 129,787 cases from those aged 30 to 34; 102,404 cases from those aged 35 to 39; and 97,883 cases from those aged 20 to 24.
However, deaths are still highest among older age groups since they are more vulnerable to the disease.
The DOH data, released on August 29, was based on COVID-19 numbers as of August 28, when there were a total of 1.93 million coronavirus cases.
During the surge of cases in August last year, the DOH said that the majority of COVID-19 infections are in the “productive age group” since they are the ones who normally go out for work.

The DOH earlier noted an increase of COVID-19 cases among all age groups following the detection of Delta variant cases. The World Health Organization confirmed the community transmission of the Delta variant on Tuesday and that it is now the most dominant variant in the country.
