MANILA, Philippines – A brother of action star Robin Padilla is now facing charges for allegedly threatening to shoot a man and lobby a grenade at his house way back in 2003 in Quezon City.
Facing a case of grave threats is Roy “Royette” Carino Padilla, himself an erstwhile actor and resident of Maple St., West Fairview.
Padilla is a member of the famous Padilla clan with his younger brother, Robin, and older sister, BB Gandanghari (formerly Rustom) as being actively involved in showbiz.
The two-page criminal indictment was received on February 15 by the Office of the Clerk of Court of the Quezon City Metropolitan Trial Court.
The case was based on a three-page resolution of assistant city prosecutor Rafael Villordon, who resolved alternating complaints lodged by Padilla and another party, Johnny Solevilla.
In the document dated December 1, Villordon said: “Bail is not necessary unless required by the court.”
Both complaints stemmed from one incident on Feb. 12, 2003, when Padilla went to the house of Solevilla in Barangay (village) San Antonio to meet his daughter, Ivonne.
Padilla was the first to file a complaint for illegal discharge of firearms and oral defamation against Solevilla, who countered with oral defamation, alarm and scandal, and grave threats.
In his resolution, Villordon found probable cause to charge the former actor who allegedly threatened to harm the other party right at his house.
The assistant city proseccutor said the Padilla’s supposed statement that he would lobby a grenade and shoot Solevilla amount to grave threats.
“…The said threats amount to a crime of arson and murder, and the threats were not subject to a condition,” part of the resolution read.
He dismissed the complaint against Solevilla for lack of probable cause and insufficiency of evidence.
Villordon also junked Solevilla’s alarm and scandal and oral defamation raps for lack of probable cause.
In his complaint, Padilla said he arrived at 1 a.m. at Solevilla’s house when he heard the other man cursing him in Filipino as Padilla was pressing the doorbell to ask for Ivonne.
The actor later heard a gunshot, prompting him to leave to seek help from police and the media.
Solevilla had a different version of the incident, with Padilla allegedly shouting invectives at him.
The former actor reportedly threatened to shoot him and lobby a grenade at his house, which forced Solevilla to call the Baler police station (now Masambong) to have the incident recorded.
The other party claimed Padilla didn’t heed the police’s invitation to explain his side. A few hours later, Solevilla was surprised when Padilla returned to his house with reporters in tow.
