Army says communist rebel killed in Misamis Oriental clash

MANILA, Philippines—A communist rebel was killed in a clash with government soldiers in Misamis Oriental, the military said on Monday (Aug. 30).

Soldiers from the 42nd Division Reconnaissance Company clashed with at least 10 New People’s Army guerrillas, said to be from NPA’s north central Mindanao command, in Gingoog City last Saturday (Aug. 28), the Army’s 4th ID said in a statement.

It said soldiers found two M-16s and an M-14 at the clash site after the 25-minute gunfight. A body, believed to be one of the rebels’, was found early on Sunday (Aug. 29) when soldiers scoured the area.
