THE Liberal Party will continue to support the gubernatorial bid of Hilario “Junjun” Davide III despite former Sen. John Henry “Sonny” Osmeña’s decision to form his own LP faction.

“I don’t see any reason why LP should not support Davide,” said Quezon Rep. Lorenzo “Erin” Tañada III, LP’s spokesman.

Tañada was in Cebu yesterday to speak about the Freedom of Information Bill in a forum at the University of Cebu.

He said Davide played an important role in the party. Davide, a former Cebu City councilor, ran for governor in 2010 under LP but lost to Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia. He will be seeking the same post under the LP banner in 2013.

In response, Davide said there was only one LP in Cebu and that he would not be distracted by Osmeña’s move.

Tañada refused to comment on the differences between LP national president Mar Roxas and LP Cebu City head Tep. Tomas Osmeña.

He said that Osmeña is an important member of the party who can’t be ignored.

Also during a press conference yesterday, Tañada declared that he is running for senator in 2013. Tañada is the eldest son of former senator Wigberto “Bobby” Tañada. He was a three-term congressman of the fourth district of Quezon.

He was also designated deputy spokesman of the House prosecution panel in the impeachment trial of Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona. Correspondent Fe Marie Dumaboc
