MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines has registered 22,366 new COVID-19 infections, the highest daily count it ever logged since the coronavirus pandemic started last year.

The Department of Health’s (DOH) latest bulletin showed that the new COVID-19 cases propelled nationwide active infections to 148,594 as well as total confirmed cases to 1,976,202 as of August 30.

Of the active cases, the DOH said 95.7 percent were mild cases, 1.7 percent were asymptomatic, 1.1 percent were severe, 0.97 percent were moderate, and 0.6 percent were critical.

“Sa mga susunod na araw ay maari pang tumaas ang ating mga kaso ng COVID-19,” the DOH said.

At the same time, the DOH reported Monday that 16,864 patients recovered from the serious respiratory illness caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus increasing the country’s recovery count to 1,794,278.

The death toll, on the other hand, stood at 33,330 after the health agency said 222 patients failed to survive the coronavirus disease.

On COVID-19 beds utilization, the DOH said that 74 percent of ICU beds, 65 percent of isolation beds, and 70 percent of ward beds across the country were in use.

It added that 53 percent of ventilators in the country were also being utilized.

In Metro Manila, 72 percent of ICU beds, 64 percent of isolation beds, 72 percent of ward beds were being occupied while 59 percent of available ventilators were also being used in the region, according to the DOH.
