A man who led anti-mask efforts in the United States is now hospitalized in critical condition due to COVID-19.
Caleb Wallace of Texas has been described to be “not doing good” by his pregnant wife, Jessica, via Facebook on Aug. 26.
“It’s not looking in our favor, his lungs are stiff due to the fibrosis. They called and said they’ve run out of options for him and asked if I would consent to a do not resuscitate. And it would be up to us when to stop treatments,” Jessica said.
“My heart just can’t. I can’t imagine my life without him. [I’m] sorry if I don’t respond to any calls or texts or messages, I am just broken up,” she added.
The post came with a photo of Caleb with one of her three daughters. Their fourth child is due Sept. 27, around two months after Caleb’s hospitalization due to the virus, as per Tri-City Herald on Aug. 27.
Prior to getting infected, Caleb publicly fought against COVID-19 precautions including wearing face masks.
He is also the founder of “The San Angelo Freedom Defenders,” which fought for “the basic rights of breathing free air, moving about freely, going into businesses without being harassed about a mask,” according to the report.
Jessica, however, still wore a mask despite her husband’s beliefs, according to Standard-Times as cited by the Tri-City Herald.
After his symptoms started on July 26, Caleb reportedly refused to get tested or see a doctor and just self-treated with an inhaler, vitamins and the controversial horse-deworming drug Ivermectin.
He was eventually hospitalized and has been unconscious and heavily sedated since Aug. 8, the report said.
Around 3.5 million COVID-19 cases have been recorded in Texas as of this writing, while around 56,000 fatalities have so far been recorded. Ian Biong /ra
