TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija — The municipal government has enforced stricter quarantine protocols after eight cases of the more contagious COVID-19 Delta variant were traced to this town, an official said Wednesday, August 25.
Mayor Nerivi Santos-Martinez said the Delta cases were “alarming,” prompting her to impose a liquor ban and a shorter period for holding wakes, which should only last for three days.
As of Wednesday, the town has recorded 84 active COVID-19 cases.
Martinez said the COVID-19 vaccination rollout would continue amid the virus surge in the town.
Nearly 20,000 residents here have already received either the first or second dose of the vaccines against COVID-19.
