MANILA, Philippines — The majority of the country, including Metro Manila, will continue to experience rain as the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) induces a high chance of precipitation, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Thursday.
According to Pagasa’s latest weather bulletin, the southern part of Luzon will see overcast skies as well as light to moderate rain showers due to the ITCZ within the next 24 hours.
“Makalumlim na panahon pa rin at may kasama rin ‘yang mahihina hanggang sa katamtaman na mga pagulan dito sa Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa pati na rin po sa may Bicol Region. Ito ay dulot pa rin ng ITCZ,” said Pagasa weather specialist Ana Clauren.
(Cloudy skies with light to moderate rain will still prevail in Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and even in the Bicol Region. This is still caused by the ITCZ.)
Although rain due to localized thunderstorms will still occur in the afternoon or evening over the rest of Luzon, Pagasa said, residents in these areas can still expect generally fair weather on Friday.
The whole of Visayas and parts of Mindanao will also experience the effects of the ITCZ, it added.
“Sa buong bahagi naman ng Visayas, pati na rin sa Northern Mindanao, Caraga, at sa may Zamboanga Peninsula pati na rin sa bahagi ng Bangsamoro ay asahan po natin ang mga kalat-kalat na pag-ulan bukas dala pa rin po ‘yan ng ITCZ,” said Clauren.
(The entire Visayas, meanwhile, as well as Northern Mindanao, Caraga, Zamboanga Peninsula as well as parts of Bangsamoro, expect scattered rain showers still brought by the ITCZ.)
As for the rest of Mindanao, the state weather service said fairer weather with scattered rain showers in the afternoon and evening may be anticipated.
Clauren said no tropical cyclone formation is expected within the Philippine Area of Responsibility in the next two to three days.
Regarding possible temperature ranges in key cities/areas across the country on Friday, Pagasa said Metro Manila, Laoag City, Legazpi City, Puerto Princesa City, and Cebu may have 24 degrees Celsius to 31 degrees Celsius; Baguio City, 16 degrees Celsius to 24 degrees Celsius; Tuguegarao, 24 degrees Celsius to 35 degrees Celsius; Tagaytay, 22 degrees Celsius to 29 degrees Celsius; Kalayaan Islands, 26 degrees Celsius to 29 degrees Celsius; Tacloban City, 25 degrees Celsius to 31 degrees Celsius; Iloilo City, Cagayan De Oro City, and Zamboanga City, from 24 degrees Celsius to 32 degrees Celsius; and Davao City, 24 degrees Celsius to 33 degrees Celsius.
No gale warning was also raised by Pagasa, noting that it expects slight to moderate sea conditions across the country’s coasts which mean fishermen and sailors can sail freely on Friday.
