Remains of rebel slain in Eastern Samar clash claimed by mother

TACLOBAN CITY—The body of a communist rebel killed in a clash last week with government troops in Dolores town, Eastern Samar was claimed Wednesday by his family.

Marlon Pomarejos, 25, also known as James, was taken by his mother.

Pomarejos and 19 other rebels were killed in an encounter with soldiers of the 52nd Infantry Battalion in Barangay Osmeña in Dolores town, Eastern Samar.

His identity was known through the help of former rebels.

The 19 other fatalities were buried in a public cemetery in Dolores town last Aug. 22.

The family of Pomarejos was given financial assistance both by the 52nd Infantry Battalion and the local government of Dolores.
