Olongapo now ‘area of concern’ in Central Luzon due to rising COVID-19 cases

OLONGAPO CITY––The city has been tagged as among the areas of concern in Central Luzon due to the increasing number of new COVID-19 cases, the OCTA Research said on Thursday, Aug. 26.

Citing data from the Department of Health, OCTA said Olongapo was ranked 9th on the list of local governments in the region with the most COVID-19 cases from Aug. 19-25. Angeles City topped the list.

Other areas of concern in the region include Sta. Maria town in Bulacan and the cities of San Jose del Monte (in Bulacan), San Fernando (Pampanga), Balanga (Bataan), Cabanatuan (Nueva Ecija) and Tarlac.

According to OCTA, Olongapo has an 18.72 average daily attack rate (ADAR). ADAR is the number of new daily cases per 100,000 population. A rate of seven and above is considered high risk.

On Aug. 25, the city logged 503 active COVID-19 infections, its highest so far since the pandemic started last year.

The city’s utilization rate for the intensive care units was at 100 percent on this date, OCTA also noted.
