QC reports 70% of total active cases in the city are unvaccinated

QC reports 70% of total active cases in the city are unvaccinated

MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City’s Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit (CESU) on Wednesday reported that 70 percent or 5,735 of the total 8,159 active COVID-19 cases in the city were unvaccinated patients.

Meanwhile, only 18 percent, or 1,416, were fully vaccinated, and 1008 of those were partially vaccinated or had not yet reached the two-week mark after their second dose.

According to Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, the data showed vaccines work and the city government’s vaccination efforts to protect the populace “is on the right track.”

“This review of our data greatly proves that our vaccines work regardless of the brand. By releasing this information, we can inspire and encourage more of our QC residents and workers to register in our vaccination program,” Belmonte said.

CESU reported that of the unvaccinated active cases, 4,619 are asymptomatic, 1,012 are mild, 74 are moderate, 10 are severe, while 20 have died.

Meanwhile, 1,031 fully vaccinated active cases are asymptomatic, 349 are mild, 33 are moderate, and no patient is considered severe or critical. However, 3 confirmed cases, all senior citizens with comorbidities, have died.

On the other hand, for those who are partially vaccinated, 714 are asymptomatic, 271 are mild, 19 are moderate, 1 severe case, and 3 deaths recorded. The three, 49, 56 and 60 years old, also had comorbidities.

Dr. Rolando Cruz, CESU’s head, said these figures confirm vaccines provide the protection the body needs to prevent severe illness.

“These vaccines continue to be highly effective in preventing hospitalization of confirmed COVID-19 patients. We have seen that patients who are fully vaccinated are asymptomatic and thus can undergo isolation in facilities only, which also lessens the burden of our hospitals,” Cruz said.

Mayor Belmonte then urged citizens and workers to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

As of August 24, 2021, the city government said it has already administered a total of 2,271,833 vaccine doses to QC residents and workers. Of this, 1,563,554 individuals, or 91.97 percent of the 1.7 million target population have already received their first doses while 708,279 or 44.09 percent have received their second doses.

Total COVID-19 cases in Quezon City is at 124,849, as of August 25, this includes 9,400 active cases, 114,144 recoveries and 1,305 deaths.

Meanwhile, the Department Of Health earlier reported that the country has reached 1,883,088 total COVID-19 cases with 125,378 active cases and 32,492 deaths.
