2 infants among Tarlac’s new COVID-19 cases

MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga––More and more children are getting infected with COVID-19 in Tarlac, according to the provincial government.

Two boys, aged 2 days, and 7 months, were among the 67 new COVID-19 cases in the province as of Tuesday, Aug. 24.

The Tarlac COVID-19 task force said the newborn is a resident of San Miguel village in Tarlac City. He was swabbed Monday, and the result came out on the same day. He was asymptomatic and confined in a hospital.

The other infant is from Sinait village, Tarlac City. He showed mild symptoms and was found positive for COVID-19 on Aug. 22. He is under quarantine.

Two male toddlers aged 2 and 3 from San Vicente and Sapang Maragul villages in Tarlac City were also placed under quarantine after contracting the virus. Both had mild symptoms.

Three other children––a 7-year-old boy from Camangaan East village in Moncada town, an 8-year-old boy from San Vicente in Tarlac City, and a 9-year-old girl from Burot village in Tarlac City – were also among the new cases.

The provincial government also recorded 127 recoveries and a single death on Tuesday, Aug. 24. The fatality was a 79-year-old man from San Roque village in Tarlac City.

As of Tuesday, the province had 1,484 active COVID-19 cases.

Since the pandemic started last year, the province has recorded 10,819 cases, of which 8,901 have recovered while 434 have died.

Tarlac City has the most active cases at 504, followed by Capas town with 186, and Victoria town with 121.
