Man killed in Quezon highway accident

LUCENA CITY — A man was killed after he was hit by a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) as he was crossing the Maharlika Highway in Gumaca town in Quezon province on Tuesday night, police said Wednesday.

Gumaca police reported that a Toyota Avanza being driven by Jonard Roda, 34, was traveling on the Maharlika Highway when he hit 22-year-old Mike Andrian Cangon who suddenly crossed a section of the national highway in Barangay (village) Camohaguin at around 10:30 p.m.

Cangon, a resident of Gumaca, sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Gumaca District Hospital but was later declared dead.

Roda is now under police custody as the investigation continues.
