Olongapo City's COVID-19 bed occupancy rate nearing critical level

OLONGAPO CITY The occupancy rate for beds dedicated to COVID-19 patients in this city rose to 84.5 percent as of Tuesday (August 24), data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed.

Only 17 of the 110 beds remained vacant, as reported by four health facilities in the city, while COVID-19 patients continue to swamp hospitals and isolation facilities.

According to the DOH, 84.5 percent was still a high-risk level but it is already nearing the critical level of 85 percent. The city’s bed occupancy rate was only at 78.1 percent the previous day.

The DOH’s tracker showed that the city’s isolation bed occupancy was also at a high-risk level with an 82.7-percent utilization rate while its COVID-19 ward beds were already fully occupied.

Based on the same data, the utilization rate of intensive care units in the city eased to a safe level with only 57 percent currently occupied.

Olongapo recorded an all-time high 504 active COVID-19 cases on Monday, August 23. INQ
