PGH temporarily stops emergency room admissions
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine General Hospital (PGH) has temporarily stopped admitting patients in its emergency room as it attends to more COVID-19 patients.
In an advisory on Tuesday, the PGH, the country’s largest COVID-19 referral hospital situated in Manila, said that it is now attending to 100 more patients from its original capacity of 230 patients suffering from the disease.
The hospital added that most of the patients are in need of intensive care, high-flow oxygen, and ventilators.

“Malalagay lang sa peligro ang kapakanan ng mga pasyente, at pati na rin ang aming mga kawani, kung ito ay hahayaan naming madagdagan pa,” the PGH said.
(It will just endanger the patients and personnel if we let more patients be admitted.)

COVID-19 cases are increasing again as the Department of Health confirms more cases of the highly transmissible Delta variant. The country currently has 130,350 active COVID-19 cases, including the 18,332 additional cases reported on Monday—the highest ever single-day increase since the pandemic started last year.
The DOH has confirmed community transmission of the Delta variant in Metro Manila and Calabarzon based on evidence but noted that it also assumes community transmission of the variant in other areas.
