10 Filipinos opt to remain in Afghanistan
MANILA, Philippines — Ten of the 27 Filipinos still in Afghanistan have informed Philippine embassy officials of their decision to stay in the South Asian country now controlled by the Taliban, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Monday.
The DFA said a total of 182 Filipinos have already been repatriated since Taliban forces took over the Afghan government last week.
It said 17 Filipino nationals have requested assistance to leave Afghanistan. The latest batch of Filipino repatriates left Kabul, the country’s capital, on Sunday and were flown to Almaty in Kazakhstan.
“Some who left Afghanistan are not returning to [the Philippines] for various reasons,” the DFA noted.
