AFP lists 87 new COVID infections

MANILA, Philippines—The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has recorded 1,526 active cases of COVID-19, with 87 new infections.

AFP spokesperson Col. Ramon Zagala on Monday (Aug 23) said this pushed the overall number of cases in the AFP to 15,625 since the start of the pandemic in 2020.

Fifty-five AFP personnel were newly recovered, bringing a total number of 13,636 cases of recovery.

Thirty-one personnel died.

Around 108,000 AFP soldiers and civilian employees have been vaccinated so far, Zagala said.

AFP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Faustino Jr. is currently in isolation after he tested positive for coronavirus in an antigen test on Monday morning. Zagala said the AFP was still waiting for the RT-PCR confirmatory results.
