MANILA, Philippines — Taal Volcano continued to degas and emit sulfur dioxide, state volcanologists said on Monday.
The volcanic sulfur dioxide from the volcano’s main crater totaled 15,416 tonnes per day on Sunday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
It also spewed steam plumes reaching 3,000 meters high that drifted north northwest.
Volcanic smog, or vog, continued to persist over the vicinity.

Phivolcs said there were 27 volcanic earthquakes, including 17 volcanic tremor events with durations of 2 to 22 minutes in the past 24 hours.
Alert Level 2 remained over the volcano. Phivolcs said that entry into the Taal Volcano island was discouraged.
“Local government officials are advised to continuously assess and strengthen the preparedness of previously evacuated barangays around Taal Lake in case of renewed unrest,” it said.
