MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines has listed 16,044 new COVID-19 cases which pushed the total number of confirmed infections to 1,839,635 on Sunday.

Based on the Department of Health (DOH)’s latest case bulletin, 215 new fatalities were also logged, bringing the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 31,810.

Meanwhile, 13,952 patients have recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 1,681,925.

The DOH also removed 460 duplicates from the overall case count to include 427 recoveries and one death.

Meanwhile, 120 cases that were  initially “tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.”

The DOH likewise noted that six laboratories were not able to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System on August 20.

The number of active COVID-19 cases now stands at 125,900 or 6.8 percent of the COVID-19 tally.

Of the number of active infections, 93.8 percent are mild, 3.4 percent are asymptomatic, 0.6 percent are critical, 1.2 percent are severe, and 0.94 percent are moderate.

Also based on the August 20 reports, the DOH observed a 25.5 percent positivity rate among 65,583 tests conducted.

Moreover, the country recorded a 73-percent utilization rate in intensive care unit beds and a 51-percent utilization of ventilators.

The DOH said the number of COVID-19 cases may still increase in the following days. It urges the public to comply with minimum public health standards and to get vaccinated.
