Occidental Mindoro village on 10-day lockdown after spike in COVID-19 cases

4 villages in Occidental Mindoro town placed under ECQ; 18 other villages on lockdown

CITY OF CALAPAN, Philippines – A village in Abra de Ilog town in Occidental Mindoro province is now on lockdown beginning August 21 to 31 due to a surge in COVID-19 cases, according to the Abra de Ilog Emergency Response Operations.

This is after the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force approved the local government’s recommendation to place Barangay (village) Poblacion on enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) or critical zone due to an increase in COVID-19 cases that were recorded in the span of just one week.

Under Containment Zone or modified ECQ are the Sitios (sub-villages) of Magnot, Lakbawan, Core and Housing in Barangay Balao; Sitio Aluyan in Barangay Tibag and Sitio Masagana in Barangay Lumangbayan.

Barangay Wawa, San Vicente, and Cabacao are the Buffer Zone or under general community quarantine (GCQ) while Barangay Armado, Udalo, and Santa Maria remain under MGCQ or Outside Buffer Zone.

As of August 21, Abra de Ilog reported the third-highest COVID-19 active cases in the province with 15 cases after San Jose with 29 cases and Mamburao with 17 cases.

Since the pandemic broke last year, the province has reported a total of 2,175 COVID-19 cases, of which 99 are active, 2,006 are recoveries and 70 are recorded deaths.
