398 more patients die of COVID-19 complications — DOH

MANILA, Philippines — Another 398 patients have succumbed to COVID-19 complications, the Department of Health (DOH) reported Saturday, the second straight day that the health department recorded over 300 deaths.

The country’s COVID-19 death count is now 31,596, which is 1.73 percent of the 1.82 million confirmed cases in the country, according to the DOH.

In total, the DOH in August has added 3,207 deaths to the count of COVID-19 fatalities.

The health department earlier warned of an increase in COVID-19 deaths after it noted a plateau in the number of casualties over the recent weeks.

Meanwhile, of the 16,694 active COVID-19 cases in the country, 1.2 percent are severe and 0.7 percent are critical that are at higher risk for death. The majority of the active cases or 93.5 percent are mild, 3.7 percent are asymptomatic, and 0.95 percent are moderate cases.

The DOH also recorded 16,694 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, the second-highest single-day increase after the 17,231 additional infections logged on Friday.
