MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Genome Centre (PGC) on Saturday said the Philippines now has community transmission of the COVID-19 Delta variant.

“Ako (I) professionally, and we at the Philippine Genome Center, while we do our analysis, and we try to link the cases, and based on the phylogenetic tree that we are doing, it is really a community transmission,”

PGC Executive Director Dr. Cynthia Saloma said in an interview on DZBB.

Saloma also said she also believes the Delta variant is linked to the the increase in COVID-19 cases in the country.

“Sa aking palagay ha … nakikita natin ‘yung Delta is associated with very sudden rise of cases,” Saloma noted.

(I think that the Delta variant is associated with a very sudden rise of cases.)

“Nakikita po natin na sa palagay ko, to a large degree, ang Delta variant ay may kinalaman dito, as also experienced by our ASEAN neighbors,” Saloma added.

(We have observed that, I think, to a large degree, the Delta variant has something to do with this, as also experienced by our ASEAN neighbors.)
